Enrollment into any courses offered by The Turnabout will require a signed agreement that you have read and agree to this parent handbook.
The Turnabout has been created as a space that our homeschool students can use to bridge some of the "gaps" that are often discussed in the homeschool community. The word "turnabout" has a classical definition of: a sudden and complete change or reversal of policy, opinion or of a situation. We have created our core curriculums around this knowledge and the verse, Psalm 34:14 which says "Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it."
The Turnabout is a learning atmosphere specifically designed to help our homeschool community fill in some needs that we see arising in our community. At any given time we will offer classes ranging from basic life skills to deep dives into specific educational aspects in a range of topics and ages. We want to be a place where any student can find their way to "turnabout" from habits, thoughts and general situations that they once had misperceptions about. We want to empower our students to know they can have a vital impact on their community as well as give them the space and creative freedom to take actual steps to do so.
Each course offered will have its own parent handbook and syllabus created by its individual teacher. All courses will be taught from a Biblical worldview.
Our mission is to educate, empower and equip our students to go into any situation and make a positive difference.
~Teachers:
All of the classes or co-op opportunities offered through The Turnabout are taught from a biblical world view by a teacher or teachers that have a passion for teaching AND kids. All teachers have previous classroom teaching experience and have provided all necessary clearances.
~Families:
The families that are best suited for The Turnabout have an equal desire for book learning and hands on experience. Each course touches on different topics so each syllabus and parent waiver will look a little bit different.
You may be a great fit if your family desires:
~opportunities to give back to the community
~a secondary teacher to mom or dad to help facilitate well rounded learning
~an opportunity to socialize and brainstorm with like minded families
~a safe, fun, lively place for your students to engage
~a Christ based learning environment
One of the biggest joys of homeschooling is that we are afforded the opportunity to learn everywhere and anywhere!
We have two locations that courses are taught from, depending on the needs of the course. One location is a residence in Quakertown PA and the other is a church building located in Warrington PA. There may be certain courses that are offered at each location depending on interest and times offered.
For most courses, the short answer is no.
Some course are very clearly designed for parent interaction, such as a toddler music and movement class. Other courses are designed specifically to help mom and dad give their child a different way to learn than what they are usually accustomed to.
Certain courses will offer parent volunteer opportunities with specific skill sets or if it is a larger class. Generally these courses will allow a discounted tuition rate for parent volunteer time.
All students are expected to adhere to the classroom rules set forth by their teacher at the beginning of each course. Students are expected to treat each other with kindness and respect. Bullying of any sort will not be tolerated in any classes offered by The Turnabout. Foul or derogatory language will not be tolerated. A single warning will be given to any student who does not adhere to these rules. If a second instance should arise, the student will require immediate removal from the classroom by parents or guardian and further removal from the course as a whole will be discussed. If a student is removed from the course by the course administrator for these reasons, it is understood that any remaining classes that have been paid for will be non refundable. If a teacher or administrator feels that either another student or themselves has been threatened or is otherwise unsafe due to the actions or words of another student, a warning does not have to be given and immediate removal will be expedited.
